Search Engine Optimization and Submissions
When we say search engine optimization and submissions, we generally
mean focusing a web site's content, design, and code toward earning
free, high rankings for search terms deemed critical to your business.
Accomplishing this can be elusive, however, since it is not always
obvious which search terms to target, and there is competition
for the same search terms. This is where eMarketing Solutions
can help. We can analyze your business model and glean which search
terms will be advantageous to target for search engine visibility,
and then aggressively outfit your site to reflect these search
terms in order to win top rankings.
The first step, then, is search term research, done with a tool
that tells us which search terms are searched on the most frequently.
Once the critical search terms are identified, we'll need to get
them primary placement in your site's code and content. The most
important of these is your site's content. It may sound ridiculous,
but there are sites that say that they want to be found under
a specific search term, and then never mention that term anywhere
on their site. You must have a few mentions of your critical search
terms in html text on your site to have any hope of being well-ranked
at the search engines. There is no substitute for this.
After the content is taken care of, we'll go into your code for
a few additions, such as altering the title tag and writing concise
meta keyword and description tags the title tag being the
most important. Once these are set, we take into consideration
a site's design. Sites designed with frames, or with heavy graphics
and fancy elements, such as flash and java script, have a very
tough time achieving significant rankings at the search engines.
With flash, you may not see any search engine index your site
at all.
Another aspect that can't be overlooked is how your site's pages
originate. If they are dynamically generated (just look for a
? in the URL), then search engines can't index these pages for
free. You must go with paid inclusion programs, which cost generally
around 30 dollars a year for one URL.
Once your site is optimized, you may want to look into having
us solicit other sites for links
to yours, as all search engines now include link popularity in
their algorithms of relevancy. It is a fact that the top ranked
sites at Google all have the best link popularity, so this is
indeed a critical factor for your search engine strategy.
After your site is primed and ready for the search sites, we'll submit to the major sites by hand. These include Yahoo!, OpenDirectory, Google, and MSN search. All lesser search sites siphon from the major ones, so getting listed at thousands of search engines isn't critical.
Be prepared to wait. Once your site is submitted, you can expect a wait of up to 6 weeks for your site to be indexed, or, if you're already indexed, to have the changes we've made reflect in your rankings. Some search engines need repeated submissions, and thus one can expect up to a wait upward of around 5 months to be fully visible through optimization.
